DISTANT LAND MARLBOROUGH RIESLING 2012

  

SEASON
Marlborough experienced a very cold spring at the beginning of the season, with frosts that severely affected bud burst, particularly amongst aromatic varieties. This was followed by a wet start to the beginning of summer, however late February the weather cleared and Marlborough had an extended hot summer, with harvest much later than usual. The small yields produced intensly flavoured fruit, creating wines of exceptional appeal.

VINEYARD
Select parcels of fruit were sourced from a single vineyard site in Renwick, Marlborough. The terroir in Marlborough is ideal for growing Riesling, the vineyard in Renwick playing an important part with its river silt soils allowing freedraining of water while layers of limestone ensure minerality.

WINEMAKING
The juice was fermented using a number of selected yeast strains and at a range of temperatures, to enable us to capture a spectrum of flavour and aroma profiles. The ferments were stopped to retain natural sweetness, and then matured on its yeast lees before blending the different tanks together to achieve a wine of balanced palette weight, character and interest.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES
Lifted lime blossom, green tea and mandarin zest on the nose lead to a succulent palate of ripe citrus and lime with a refreshing crisp acidity.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Serve slightly chilled, superb with any light lunch dish or a seafood influence.
